Bec Fernon (b. 2001) is a painter currently living and practicing on Gadigal Land. Her artistic journey began with secondary education at Stella Maris College, Manly, where she cultivated a deep interest in the arts. Her passion for the arts extended beyond the conventional, encompassing studies both in and out of school. In addition to her visual arts pursuits, she dedicated a decade to studying the saxophone and invested four years studying the cello, revealing a diverse spectrum of artistic interests.
In 2023, Fernon completed her tertiary education, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National Art School where she was awarded with the James Ballaam Elsley Memorial Prize for an excellence in painting. Bec recently has exhibited in a group show alongside other emerging artists at GoodSpace Gallery and in a group show ‘Hooray for Hollywood’ at the Hollywood Hotel alongside at least 100 other artists and other notable artists such as Blak Douglas and Lindy Lee.
Currently, she is residing in Manly, where she weaves her artistic pursuits with a role in the hospitality industry. She has found a great degree of inspiration working in hospitality as she dedicates time in understanding people and abiding to their needs and wants. This immersion offers her a profound understanding of both conscious and subconscious minds, a perspective that informs her artistic practice.
In her exploration of the intersection between art and human interaction, she aims to create paintings that act as mirrors to our collective subconscious, prompting viewers to contemplate the often perplexing and paradoxical nature of contemporary culture.
